Taught by Dina, who got A* in A-Level Maths
Dina rebuilds the algebra and trigonometry foundations first, then layers on calculus, Mechanics and Statistics.
A-Level Maths is where the GCSE-to-A-Level jump hits hardest. The algebra that felt optional at GCSE is now assumed, and the applied modules — Mechanics and Statistics — need a completely different way of thinking. Dina, who achieved A* in A-Level Maths, rebuilds the foundations first: algebraic fluency, trigonometry, and the rules of indices and logs. Only then do we layer on differentiation, integration and the applied content.
Proof is a sticking point for many students — it asks for a precision GCSE never demanded. We teach the three proof methods (deduction, exhaustion and contradiction) with worked examples your child can mirror. For Mechanics we teach the modelling approach, and for Statistics the data-and-probability approach, so applied questions become predictable rather than a gamble. The large data set is covered explicitly for AQA and Edexcel.

What a marked answer looks like
Homework is marked with written feedback within 7 days — not a tick, a clear note on the next mark.
Differentiate y = x²·ln(x) and find the gradient at x = 1. (A-Level Pure, 5 marks)
Using the product rule, dy/dx = 2x·ln(x) + x²·(1/x) = 2x·ln(x) + x. At x = 1, ln(1) = 0, so the gradient = 0.
Examiner notes
- ✓ Product rule applied correctly — 2/5 marks.
- ✓ Simplification to 2x·ln(x) + x is clean — 1/5.
- ✗ At x=1: 2(1)(0) + 1 = 1, not 0. Re-check the final substitution — last 2 marks lost.
Paper structure for AQA, OCR and Edexcel
Lessons use your child's exact board, so practice matches the real paper.
Two Pure papers plus one Mechanics & Statistics paper. Large data set (meteorological or transport data) is assumed knowledge.
Pure Core (two papers) and Mechanics & Statistics (one paper), with an optional major/minor combination on some specifications.
Pure Mathematics 1 and 2, plus one combined Mechanics & Statistics paper. Large data set (weather or population data) is examinable.
