Taught by Dina, who got A* in A-Level Biology
Dina builds the maths-for-Biology skills in alongside the content, and drills the mark-scheme vocabulary topic by topic.
A-Level Biology surprises students with how much maths it contains — statistical tests, magnification, surface-area-to-volume ratios and rates of reaction. Dina, who achieved A* in A-Level Biology and holds a Neuroscience degree, builds these skills in alongside the content so they never become a barrier.
The other half of A-Level Biology is language. Marks are awarded for exact terms — "osmosis" vs "diffusion", "denatured" vs "broken down" — and students who know the biology still lose marks for loose wording. We teach the mark-scheme vocabulary topic by topic, and we drill the 6-markers and the synoptic essay with a repeatable structure so your child writes what examiners are looking for.

What a marked answer looks like
Homework is marked with written feedback within 7 days — not a tick, a clear note on the next mark.
Explain how the structure of a neurone is related to its function. (6 marks)
The axon is long so impulses travel quickly from one place to another. It has a myelin sheath which speeds up the impulse. There are dendrites to receive signals.
Examiner notes
- ✓ Mentions myelin sheath and its role — 1 mark.
- ✗ Use the term 'saltatory conduction' for the myelin point — earns the full mark.
- ✗ 6-marker needs 3 developed points (structure → function → why it helps). Only 1 developed here — 2/6.
Paper structure for AQA, OCR and Edexcel
Lessons use your child's exact board, so practice matches the real paper.
Three papers, each mixing short and long-answer questions. Paper 3 includes a 25-mark synoptic essay from a choice of two titles.
Three papers: two topic-based (Breadth and Depth) plus a Unified Biology paper that draws synoptic links across the whole spec.
Three papers including a General and Practical Principles paper. Practical skills and data analysis run through all three.
